Click the image to view a police video depicting the arrest of a 15-year old African American girl for violating a curfew in Fort Pierce, FL. In the video you can hear the officer asking her not to resist (sound begins at around the 30 second mark). He slams her head into the car at one point, then at another he punches her and sprays her directly in the face with mace after she bit him. One can make the case for resisting, however, it becomes excessive when:

  1. The girl is as small as she is. In the video, the officer barely has to exert himself to keep her in front of the car.
  2. Slamming her head into the car was not necessary.
  3. Punching her was most definitely not necessary.
  4. Spraying her with mace was not necessary.
  5. This is a curfew violation, imagine if it was something more serious?

This video is like a teenager punching his 6-year old brother in the face because he refused to do what he was told. Except this went to the next level by adding a face slam and mace.

After viewing this video, what do you think?

In the article, it is mentioned that the police chief criticized the girl’s aunt for sending the tape to the media and wished that she just complained to the police. Um, yeah, a lot of good that would have done.

Nooses, nooses, and more nooses

October 10, 2007

noose1.jpg

I follow the news regularly and I have noticed a substantial up tick in noose incidents over the past month or so. I haven’t posted about them here because I did not want to sound like a broken record.

However, this noose crap is getting ridiculous.

First I posted about the noose incident near Jena, Louisiana. No explanation needed for that one. Also, if you remember, the whole Jena 6 situation began when whites hung a noose from what was supposed to be a ‘white only’ tree on the school’s campus.

This summer the Coast Guard dealt with a couple of noose incidents as well.

Now, the latest noosetastic (yeah, a word I just made up) episode happened on Columbia University’s campus yesterday morning. A noose was hung outside of an African American professor’s door. (Make sure to check out the race incident time line to the right of the article)

Jack Turner, writing as a guest contributor for Racialicious, broke down other noose incidents in Pittsburgh that I had not heard of.

I mean, really? Is this the new hotness? Hanging nooses? Read more

Republican loses his cool on video

October 10, 2007

Now, I am not a Republican, however, I totally feel James Oddo on his reaction. It is one thing to know what is coming when interviewed on The Daily Show or The Colbert Report, but to be pranked when you think it is going to be a serious interview, I would probably be mad too.But alas, Borat did it, and it was friggin funny. By the way, the above video contains NSFW language (not safe for work).

This interview was done by a Norwegian tv show that is supposedly very popular over there, like The Daily Show.

Enjoy.

White conservative says slavery is exaggerated

October 9, 2007

You have just got to love race deflectors (people who try to put off the issue of racism via numerous means - are what I call race deflectors). The latest race deflector to show his face is Michael Medved over on the conservative site, TownHall.com. Read more
