Sherri Shepherd: Nothing pre-dates the Christians

Update: In the comments of this article, I was alerted to the fact that Shepherd had a previously gaffe where it comes out she did not know whether the Earth was round or flat. See that video below the first one. Thanks to Doris and Rob.
During an episode of “The View”, Sherri Shepherd showcased her amazing intellect during a discussion of the Greek philosopher Epicurus. Keep in mind that he lived from 341 B.C. to 270 B.C. when you hear Shepherd say:
“I don’t think anything pre-dated Christians”
Um, yeah.
What about the Egyptions, Nubians, Greeks, Aztecs, Chinese Dynasties, THE DINOSAURS, and etc., etc.??
Video of the conversation is below.

LOL, this honestly doesn’t surprise me. Alot of people think that Christianity is the only religion and that all other religions are paganistic. If those individuals would actually research their history, they would see that christianity has pagan origins.
Am I the only black female a little embarrassed about Shepherd? Don’t get me wrong, I love her, think she is HILARIOUS! But, it would hurt to, oh, I don’t know, read a book? One without pictures?
And, I’m sure I’m broaching a sensitive subject, but Christianity doesn’t have its roots in paganism; its roots are Judeaic. Yes, I’m aware of the fact lots of “pagan” religions involve a mother and her God-Son; however, a virgin birth is mentioned in the Old Testament, or rather, the Tanakh, and I don’t think having a similar concept is the same as having “roots.”
No, you are not the only black female embarrassed about Shepherd. Since she has to always inject religion into most every subject, you would think that she would be moe knowledgeable about it. i.e. the time that she spoke out and said that the earth was flat. A good rule of thumb is, when you don’t know what to say, say nothing.
@ Doris
“i.e. the time that she spoke out and said that the earth was flat.”
Are you serious? She really said that? Was it on The View?

No you are not the only black woman embarrassed by this fool. Frankly, she disgusts me. We have enough black female foolishness on tv (vh1, bet) and don’t need anymore.
Btw Judaism DOES have “pagan” roots in Middle Eastern religions (inc. Canaanite). The god El for example (isra-el; elohim). Judaism didn’t not appear out of thin air. No religion does.
Just coming back from a trip to Egypt, you would be surprised how many stories that are part of Ancient Egyptian religions, sound just like Christian stories. I am Christian, and it really made me think about where the roots of some of Christianity came from. New Testament is a different thing, but it makes you go hmmmm……… BTW, Ancient Egyptians were resurrectionists, not reincarnationists (sp?) They buried all the stuff in the tombs because the person was to resurrect on the other side and therefore would need their stuff. So the concept of resurrection is very old.
Hi All,
I was beginning to think I was the only one. What was B Walters thinking when she hired Sherri “Who’s Your Caddy?” Shepard?
She actually said on the show that she was hurt after Dog The Bounty Hunter made his racist statement. She said that Dog had been a role model of hers. She actually said this on the view!
Everytime I see her open her mouth I cringe.
Interesting that Jesus came to Earth before the Virgin Mary. Didn’t remember it reading that way in my Bible. Could it be a misprint?
Mes Deux Cents-Sherri was doing pretty good BEFORE she actually got the job.
LaJane Galt - I know what you’re saying. And, I get all that. Even if a religion does arise out of “thin air,” it would have to use the terms already familiar to the people. Ex, “El.”
But, that’s neither here nor there. The idea of sacrifice or blood covenant aren’t original to Judaism. So, I have to qualms with the idea that one religion shares ideas and names with another.
I guess what I was referring to, more or less, was the notion that Christianity is only rehashed “paganism” with nothing new to offer. Setting religious affilliation aside, that’s not accurate.
But back to the poor media represenation of AA women, I guess it’s up to TV One to hold up the banner. It would be nicer to get to the point where an individual’s actions and comments reflect only on the individual and no larger group. Or at least, doesn’t affect future opportunities for members of a larger group.
I don’t know if she actually KNOWS it or not, but Sherri is not entirely wrong. The idea that I argue is that the Bible speaks of Christ from the very beginnning. Christians believe that The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit are all of the same being anfd the Bible use the term “We” even from the beginning:
Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’”
It is believed that human beings were formed in God and therefore Jesus’ likeness. Throughout the Bible, even before Christ was naturally born, there was a hope of a King to come and therefore people BELIEVED in Christ before he ever “existed” on earth.
I’m sure that’s not what she meant though, lol.
On a side note, that passage also argues why Mike Vick should not be in jail right now, lol
Good point, Karen!
As far as Vick? Having dominion doesn’t allow abuse. Vick broke the law. Though, the DA in Jena, LA seems to have done some law breaking himself.
Karen, I do believe that what you elucidated so clearly is the very thing that Ms. Shepherd so thoroughly mangled. I think it WAS what she meant, or what she was trying (in vain) to make coherent in her mind. That’s why I put “came to Earth” in my comment above.
As for what she actually said, well, I believe that if there was nothing at all before Christianity, that would make St. Joseph and the sainted Virgin Mary athiests. Don’t tell the pope!
The Nubians and Egyptians predated the Greeks. List talk about history why do we give so much credit to the (Romans and Greeks) when they copy off the Nubians and Egyptians.?
oh ! an dby the way…………………The first time I ever heard Egypt being anything other than Black is when I began looking at vids on youtube. It’s funny I don’t see any intellectual White people claiming Egypt was White. And if they did they would lose all their credibility and be laughed out the scientific community. The only people claiming Egypt was white are the non-educated ignorant racists. Show me an ivy-league educated person who denouces a Black Egypt and I’ll show you their phony degree.
Cita Blue, I feel you on the point that dominion doesn’t justify abuse, and I agree. The problem that I have is how hypocritically the whole subject was handled. You do know that the judge, when sentencing, discussed how important his dogs were to him while quail HUNTING!!!!???!!! I was shocked!! As if a little quail wants to die for his sport!!! Also, some of the “inhumane deaths” that VIck subjected the animals to were ways that the American government carried out executions. Hanging and electrocution for sure, even in recent history. Hell, the fact that we actually execute HUMAN BEINGS is problematic. Also, legality is conditional. At one point, slavery was perfectly legal and that damn sure wasn’t cool.
Karen, I completely agree. Tim Wise wrote an essay about the animal rights movement titled “White Animals” or something like that. http://www.timwise.org He basically argues that a disturbing number of animal rights activists (most of them) treat animals like white Americans are treated in general.
So basically, I concede that Vick broke the law, though the conditionality of the criminal justice period leaves much to be desired. The reaction was way out of hand. I hadn’t hard that about the judge. It’d be funny if it weren’t true.
And how many million animals are “legally” slaughtered, to feed the meat eaters of the world? I guess you pick and choose which animal slaughter and abuse is conscionable….
And Sherri Shepherd is blind… by choice. We can all choose one “myth” over another “myth”. But in the end they are ALL just that myths.
